Teacher Information for Mark Welch

Mark Welch

Thanks for visiting this website, I hope you find it useful and informative. I currently teach Video Production, Photography, Digital Media and, Web Design, in the PTHS Career and Technical Education Program (CTE).  I feel very fortunate to be able to teach the subjects I love at Port Townsend High School.   Before becoming a teacher I spent nearly 30 years in private business, including as an owner/manager of a retail store, working as a photographer and operating my video production company, Grayland/Welch Productions.    I’ve had a wonderful career doing work that I have thoroughly enjoyed.  My goal now is to help students gain knowledge in these exciting fields, assist them in acquiring some useful skills and, hopefully, to help them on their way to find rewarding lives in whatever careers they choose.

Elephant rolling logs in Thailand

Philosophically, I believe strongly in being a lifetime learner, both for my students and myself.  In the journeys of work and life there are always lessons to be taken, and new skills to learn.  I know I learn something new from students every day.   I also believe we learn best by doing.  In that regard I try, as much as possible, to keep my classes project oriented.  The skills we need to complete our tasks are the skills we tend to value and remember.

I still work at what I teach.  I am currently involved in developing a commercial website, I produce videos for our local Public, Educational, and Governmental TV station, PTTV, and spend as much of my free time as possible creating images.  I took the photograph of the elephant moving logs on a recent trip to Thailand.

If you have questions about any of the classes I instruct, or the CTE program at Port Townsend High School, please feel free to call or email me.  My office hours are Tuesday & Thursday 2:50 pm to 3:30 pm. I'm also available by appointment. You can reach me at (360) 379-0707
